Tea is the world’s second most popular beverage, after water. Increased
understanding of the role antioxidants play in the prevention of cancer and
cardiovascular disease has positioned tea as the ideal health beverage. We
only recommend organic, loose leaf tea, however, for both taste and health
reasons. In conventionally grown non-organic teas, pesticides or other chemicals
that were used in growing the tea plants are then boiled from the tea leaves
into your water and into your body.

Fresh loose-leaf teas will provide you with a great deal more
taste, aroma, economy, antioxidants and pleasure than steeping the tiny leaf
bits and stale tea dust packaged in bags. With respect to tea in tea bags,
breaking up the leaves for bags disperses flavored oils and other oils that
support health benefits. In addition, the small size of the bag does not allow
leaves to diffuse and steep properly.
Although Green Tea has received more news media attention
than black and oolong tea, all tea is good for you. Its medicinal potential
comes from antioxidant compounds called polyphenols. These polyphenols scavenge
cell–damaging free radicals, which are linked with cancer–causing genes and
cause LDL cholesterol to form artery-clogging plaque. The polyphenols in tea
possess 20 to 30 times the antioxidant potency of vitamins C and E.
Green
Tea catechins have been shown to act as powerful inhibitors of cancer growth in
several ways, e.g., they scavenge oxidants before cell injuries occur, reduce
the incidence and size of chemically induced tumors, and inhibit the growth of
tumor cells. [BTW, Green Tea is one of the ingredients of the organic pre-mix
that we utilize for our Golden Alfie's CanineLife
diet.]
